2017 Trailblazing Woman - Maggie Fronk
Mar 23, 2017

"While I grew up an only child, through Soroptimist International of Saratoga County, I have 70 sisters who champion programs to help women and girls locally and globally. Twelve years ago they asked how they could help domestic violence survivors. I explained that many women are trapped in abuse because of economics. Mothers fear if they left they couldn’t provide housing, food, and healthcare for their children. In just six weeks, SISC launched Project Hope and Power, our financial literacy program for any woman who is limited in her choices due to financial dependence. Today, more than 600 women have achieved housing, employment and improved financial stability--- and it all started with just a conversation and the commitment of Soroptimist members to helping women (and what an impressive commitment-- they’ve volunteered 5,000 hours to Project Hope and Power!)" ~ Maggie Fronk

Soroptimist International of Saratoga County (SISC) is excited about our 2017 Cabin Fever event! Cabin Fever, an annual fundraising luncheon, provides a platform for individuals to gather, network, and raise money for a tremendous cause – improving the lives of women and children locally, nationally and internationally. Soroptimist International, our umbrella organization, disburses more than $1.6 million annually, benefiting 1,300 women through its cornerstone program called Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women.

Additionally, Cabin Fever attendees are delighted to hear remarks from our notable speakers. In 2017, we are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Kasey Mathews as our keynote presenter.

Kasey Mathews, a writer and teacher who has been asked to speak before the US Congress, will share her message that life’s challenges are really opportunities in disguise. Kasey’s book, Preemie: Lessons in Love, Life and Motherhood, chronicles her transformation into becoming an advocate when her second child arrived unexpectedly at 25 weeks, weighing just over a pound.

After the book’s release, Kasey became a featured speaker, traveling around the country, speaking to groups ranging from fireside book group gatherings and women’s organizations; to company award banquets, medical conferences, and radio and television programs.  Preemie: Lessons in Love, Life and Motherhood won the New Hampshire Writer’s Project Reader’s Choice award, and was a featured book on the Random House book site Bibliophile.

With a newly expanded mission, and the launch of her website – The Usual Magic, Kasey is inspiring women to find more meaning, purpose and balance in their lives.  Her work includes A Mom's Guide to Creating a Magical Life, a series of online workshops, and her blog – Awaken the Magic. Kasey is currently at work on her second book, in which she illustrates the journey of overcoming the year-long traumatic period in which her family experienced three broken legs, four surgeries, a lost dog and several other assorted miracles!

You can learn more about Kasey Mathews at www.kaseymathews.com
