Violet Richardson Award

2019 Soroptimist of Saratoga County Violet Richardson Award Recipient:
Sakthi has been involved with a variety of projects at the Saratoga Senior Center and made a commitment to helping seniors with projects such as IT device assistance, organization of books and help with membership renewal. Our local club awarded $500 to Sakthi and $500 to the Saratoga Senior Center on her behalf. Sakthi also volunteers at the Saratoga Public Library & the Saratoga Arts Center.
We also congratulate our Violet Richardson Honorable Mention Awardees and their families. Each amazing young woman will receive a $250 award and $250 towards their local non profit programs. Bronwen Chilton founded the "Sit With Us Club" at Saratoga Springs High School which provided a welcoming and accepting environment in the cafeteria. Kassondra Cook recently chaired the South Glens Falls High School Marathon Dance program and has been raising money for years for the program. This year they raised $837,800 for local charities.

The Violet Richardson Award is given by the club each year, to celebrate the efforts of young women in Saratoga County who are working to improve their lives or the lives of others. The Violet Richardson Award honors a young women between the ages of 14 and 18 for her volunteer action such as fighting drugs, crime and violence; cleaning up the environment; and working to end discrimination and poverty. We are most interested in applicants that have demonstrated initiative in both identifying a problem and trying to solve it and had significant and noteworthy accomplishments as volunteers.
The award is named after Violet Richardson, the president of the first Soroptimist club in 1921, who believed in personal responsibility and the motto, “It’s what you do that counts.”
Each year SISC provides the recipient with a cash award of $500.00 and a matching award of $500.00 to the organization she supports.
The deadline for next year's Violet Richardson award is December 31, 2019. For more information about applying to the Violet Richardson Award program, and to receive an emailed copy of the VR application, please contact Lyn Whaley at
