After needing to cancel the 2020 Secret Gardens Tour due to the pandemic, it was wonderful to get out there again. The rain held off until the very end and the 2021 Secret Gardens Tour was a great success. This annual fundraiser helps support programs for women and children throughout our local area and internationally.
Saratoga Soroptimists went apple picking on Wednesday, October 23! Soroptimist International of Saratoga County, through its Growth and Development Committee, is creating opportunities to maintain membership through socially distanced outdoor events, such as apple picking at the Saratoga Apple Orchard in Schuylerville. Keeping active and in touch with each other brings a spirit of optimism and shared friendship among Soroptimist members. And those cider doughnuts can't be ignored!
Here is another example of how your attendance at and sponsorship of Cabin Fever and the Secret Gardens Tour helps women, girls and communities at the international level through our Global Initiative Project.  #SoroptimistWomenatWork. We received this note of thanks from the Loisaba Community Trust in Kenya for the support we provided through a Global Initiative Grant (note: FGM stands for female genital mutilation):
The membership meeting on 1/8/2020 included an "Ice Breaker" organized by the Growth and Development Committee; a presentation by Silver Award Girl Scouts detailing their "Blessings Box" project, to which SISC contributed; and a request by Barbara Lombardo for "picketers" for this year's Cabin Fever event, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment.
SISC's Growth and Development Committee held a Leadership Workshop on 1/8/2020.  The committee partnered with SISC club member Evelyn Neale, owner of Successful Change, to help us identify what type of leadership style we have.  We then had to work in small groups to test our leadership style by building a lego house.  Only the ‘architect’ saw the design, had to communicate that to the ‘communicators’, who, in turn, communicated that information to the ‘builder’.  Evaluations of the program proved it to be valuable, with some requesting a longer workshop in the future!
What a day! Cabin Fever 2020 successfully celebrated the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment with fun, laughs, networking, insightful conversations and a bit of singing by all! Thanks to all who joined and made this day possible - including our fireside chat participants - Coline Jenkins, Patricia Nugent, Wendy Johnston and Ella Ouimet. We hope to see you at Cabin Fever 2021!
Saratoga Soroptimists celebrated the legacy of Ned Chapman and Sunnyside Gardens at their December 2019 meeting, with Ned's family represented by his daughter Heather. Ned was a champion of Soroptimist beliefs and was a stalwart supporter of the Secret Gardens Tour. The 2020 Secret Gardens Tour will be dedicated to his memory.
Congratulations Soroptimists of Saratoga for an amazing 2019, 25th Anniversary Secret Garden Tour! This annual fundraiser helps support programs for women and children throughout our local area and internationally. Thank you to our talented gardeners and dedicated SISC members who make this amazing tour an annual event in Saratoga Springs, NY! (photos courtesy of Brian Hoffman)
At the June 2019 SISC membership meeting, we inducted our new members for next year and gave out longevity pins.
The 2019 Soroptimists' Garden Party at Sunnyside Gardens took place on Friday May 10. The evening included a presentation by one of Sunnyside's master gardeners, flavorful wines and snacks, raffles and a wine pull, and music by Phil Drum. Sunnyside Gardens donated 10% of the evening's sales to SISC. The wonderful pictures in this gallery were taken by Brian Hoffman. Thank you to all who made this event so successful!
